Sistine Chapel
It would be wrong to visit Rome and NOT visit the chapel. Even if you’re not religious, it’s worth the journey to see the ceiling painted by Michelangelo. Also, gorgeous artworks adorn the surrounding walls, making this a brilliant place to visit.
The Pieta
Another of Michelangelo’s masterpieces, the sculpture depicts the body of Jesus Christ in the arms of his grieving mother, Mary, after his crucifixion. Profoundly moving, the statue is considered one of the great masterpieces of Renaissance art. Incredibly detailed, it’s bound to leave an impact on all visitors.
St Peter’s Basilica
St Peter’s Basilica is an architectural marvel located in Vatican City and one of the holiest sites in Christianity. With it’s massive dome, intricate artwork & ornate decorations, the building is incredible whilst it is also home to masterpieces such as Michelangelo’s Pieta & Bernini’s Baldachin. The dome also provides panoramic views of the surrounding Italian capital.
Capitoline Museum
The oldest public museum in the world is a real treat for history and art lovers and has an incredible collection of ancient Roman artefacts and is home to stunning sculptures such as the statue of Emperor Constantine, intricate paintings like the Capitoline Wolf, and fascinating archaeological discoveries. The museum is located on Capitoline Hill, so you’ll also get a great city view. It’s a must-visit to immersion in Rome’s rich history and admire incredible ancient art.
