CERN: Breaking Scientific Boundaries
CERN & Geneva: The Theory (and centre) of Everything
CERN is has been at the front of some of the biggest breakthroughs in the past 70 years, which is why there’s no better place harness student’s enthusiasm for all things science than visiting the centre itself. With its proximity to Geneva, there’s so many museums and activities to make this the perfect science trip.
- Mild spring, perfect summer
- Filled with institutions
- Great chocolate and cheese.
CERN
From the Large Hadron Collider to the World Wide Web, CERN has been home to some of the most important achievements in mankind for the past 70 years. CERN is also fantastic at creating the next generation of scientists. From guided tours of the LHC to workshops, CERN will be an unforgettable experience for students.
Vieille Ville
The ‘Old Town’ of Geneva, built in the 12th century, is a historic landmark in Switzerland’s oldest city. Wander through secret passageways, down cobblestone streets, and discover the country’s Medieval History.
St. Pierre Cathedral
Everyone loves a panorama, and St. Pierre Cathedral offers the highest point in Geneva’s old town. 157 steps are all that are between you and a great snap. Yes, your thighs WILL hurt, but that selfie will be worth it. It’s also quicker on the way down, I promise.
Lake Geneva
Mountain views, loads of greenery, big boats, perfect climate. Sheesh, Lake Geneva has got it all.
As Central Europe’s biggest lake, it’s also unsurprising that it’s got loads of things you can do there. Yeah, you can go swimming, but you can also jump on a boat tour around the lake, pop into a lakeside restaurant or all of the above.
United Nations
The Palais des Nations and its surrounding park make for an incredible afternoon. Spend time with a guided tour in English (Or French if you want a challenge), and learn about the work the UN has been doing for the past century.
Montreux
A short hop from Geneva, Montreux is a picturesque town on Lake Geneva. In the summer, there are stunning hiking trails in the surrounding mountains, a cracking castle, and a museum dedicated to Charlie Chaplin. It also hosts a jazz festival.
Red Cross Museum
One of the truly good institutions of the world, the Red Cross Museum offers interactive exhibits to educate visitors on its history, current affairs and the challenges of providing humanitarian action across the world.
A thought-provoking, but worthwhile visit.
